Hinoi Team - King Kong/ Ike Ike

Hinoi Team ( Hinoi Chīmu) is a female J-pop group formed around Asuka Hinoi with supporting members Keika Matsuoka, Hikaru Koyama, and Rina Takenaka. Most of their releases are covers of Eurobeat songs.

Their debut was decided on February 2, 2005 with the single IKE IKE. But it was cancelled maybe because they aren't ready yet. IKE IKE is a eurobeat song and the choreography focuses on the para para genre. They are new to everything about para para, so they did undergo a lot of training for it. Also, their group name changed from HINOI TEAM to Hinoi Chīmu. Not much of a difference except TEAM is now written in katakana. They also appeared on a bunch of avex-related promo tours, like the Osaka Automesse 2005, and also the one in Sapporo.

Their debut date was moved to May 18, a pretty long wait for fans. On April, they opened a website for HINOI TEAM. It was more like a page then, but it had enough info to introduce us to them. The site opened fully on April 29. Even before they debuted, their second single has already been announced. KING KONG, another eurobeat/parapara song, will be released on July 27. It's clear now that this will be HINOI TEAM's kind of music.

For their KING KONG single, Koriki Choshu collaborated with HINOI TEAM with a new version of IKE IKE, Koriki version. It was a hit and the collaboration was said to be a one time thing only.

KING KONG

HINOI team's second single went on sale on July 27, 2005 in Japan. The single also features the song "SUPER EURO FLASH" as well as a New Generation mix of the previous single, IKE IKE and a Eurobeat version of KING KONG, as well as a TV Mix of both KING KONG and SUPER EURO FLASH. The DVD version has a PV, Para Para video for KING KONG, a Koriki version of IKE IKE and an offshot video

IKE IKE

The HINOI team's debut "IKE IKE" went on sale on May 18, 2005 in Japan. The single also features the song "SING NA NA NA" as well as an extended version of IKE IKE and instrumental versions for both IKE IKE and SING NA NA NA. The DVD version has a PV, Para Para video & off-shot video for IKE IKE. "IKE IKE" was also used as the ending theme for the anime Ichigo 100% and as the ending during the month of April for the Chukyo TV. Broadcasting show Sarudie.

Shanadoo - Japanese Boy

Although Shanadoo is not Japanese but Geman, the four girls deserves a place on this blog for their fantastic music and video. Shanadoo is an all female member group made up of four young Japanese women from the Platinum Production agency. Chika, Junko, and Manami have worked together in the past as part of Avex's promotional group, Vivace. Vivace's works include promotional work as race queens, bikini pinup modeling, and even a few eurobeat style recordings for various Avex music compilations such as Girl's BOX. Marina was later added to the group as lead vocalist once the project went into production with noted German record producer, David Brandes, at the helm. Brandes' production works include numerous international hits with acts such as E-Rotic, Bad Boys Blue, and Vanilla Ninja. Released on June 16, 2006 through one of Brandes' record labels, Icezone Musc, Shanadoo's first single, "King Kong", a cover of E-Rotic's 2000 work of the same name, later recovered in 2005 by Hinoi Team in Japan, was met with great success. Shanadoo's works were exclusive to Germany and other European markets, such as Austria, until December of 2006, when Avex announced that a then untitled debut album would be released on February 28, 2007 in Japan. In January of 2007, it was announced by Icezone Music that Shanadoo's fourth single, to be released on March 9, 2007 in Germany, would be original content instead of a Japanese cover of E-Rotic.

Shanadoo’s fifth single realesed on October 5, 2007 was Japanese Boy. This is a remake of a 1981 song by Bobby Heatie with Aneka ( Mary Sanderson ). This was a big hit in all countries ( a UK # 1, 8 th august 1981 ), but not so much in Japan as they thought it sounded “ too Chinese”. Later Polydor covered it with a little Japanese “ buriko” ( “cutesey-pie”) singer named Yukano as “ Mai Chyainesu Boi “ ( “ My Chinese Boy”) that sold quite well.

Japanese Boy ( Lyrics )

He said that he loved me never would go
oh oh oh oh
Now I find I'm sitting here on my own
oh oh oh oh

Was it something I've said or done
That made him pack his bags up and run?
Could it be another he's found?
It's breaking up the happy home

Mister can you tell me where my love has gone?
He's a Japanese Boy
I woke up one morning and my love was gone
Oh my Japanese Boy
Ooh I miss my Japanese Boy

People ask about him every day
oh oh oh oh
Don't know what to tell them what can I say?
oh oh oh oh

If only he would write me or call
A word of explanation that's all
It would stop me climbing the wall
It's breaking up the happy home

Hannah - Luxury

Hannah
( Ryu Sook Jin ) was born the 13th of june 1981. She made her education at a
Seoul Art High School. She made two albums - Bounce in june 2004 and Luxury in march 2006. It's almost impossible to find any information on Hannah in english on the web, although she has succes in Korea and there are some websites about her work in korean.

Here we have her two videos for the songs Luxury and Bounce. Luxury is certainly one of our favorite videos from a korean artiste. In this one, the director mixes modern and traditionnal desings for a very interesting and fascinating result. You can see Hannah wearing tranditional clothes of Korea, Japan, and China and an incredible red wig that reminds me of Madonna in one of her videos. Enjoy!

Shim Mina - Answer the Phone

Shim Mina ( born on December 10, 1972), simply known as Mina, is a Korean singer who was first a back-dancer for various Korean Pop Artists (Park Jin-Young, and Park Ji-Yoon to name a few). She initially found instant fame as the "World Cup Girl", as photographers noticed her beauty and immediately became the center of attention world-wide over-night.
Mina charged into the spotlight in 2002 with her first album, "Rendezvous", and people began to warm up to her title track, "Answer the Phone". The words and melody were easy enough to sing along to, making it a popular hit in Korea and across several other Asian nations.

This is her video "Answer the Phone"

When people think of Mina, two things come instantly to mind! Number one, the World Cup, and number two - her fanTAStically toned body! She exercises regularly and has abs that are the envy of all women. Her body is her temple, and she keeps it looking young and healthy.

Pick Up The Phone
Translation by: Jungie

Curse, get hit in the cheek, drink, and break. (3x)

When our eyes and hearts met, we love each other.
We promised with our pinky’s tied for our love to be forever.
I recieved an urgent call from my friend saying that
you were with some other girl
With my heart shaking, I dialed your phone number.

Don’t say a word and just answer the phone (answer the phone)
My number is flashing but why aren’t you getting it? (anser the phone)
The phone cries and I cry. I have something to say, so answer the phone.

You came to me first clinging to me wanting to go out.
Did I go to you cling to your side wanting to go out first? (no)
“Because my phone fell I couldn’t answer your call.”
You lie like you eat and I hate you.

Don’t say a word and hang up (answer the phone)
I don’t want to talk anymore (answer the phone)
The phone cries and I cry. Since I have nothing to say goodbye.

Curse, get hit in the cheek, drink, and break. (8x)

I don’t know at all what you think of me as.
I thought that our lovestory was to get married.
I seriously liked you, and I seriously loved you.
Your avoided phone, tore my heart up.

Don’t say a word and just answer the phone (answer the phone)
My number is flashing but why aren’t you getting it? (anser the phone)
The phone cries and I cry. I have something to say, so answer the phone.

Curse, get hit in the cheek, drink, and break. (4x)

Namie Amuro: Queen of hip-pop - WOWA

Throughout the early part of the new century, Namie continually proved her star status within the pop scene as each successive album sold more copies than the last. Her relentless touring schedule earned her new fans, and Namie ranks as one of the most successful pop stars in Japanese history. The “hip-pop” style that has come to define Namie’s sound was reflected in the title of her 2005 album, Queen of Hip-Hop.

In collaboration with MGM Studios, Namie has licensed for the use of the Pink Panther character to be used in conjunction with the album "Queen of Hip-Pop". A female panther counterpart has been created in her image for the album as well. There seems to be no connection with the usage of the Pink Panther and the possible Japanese release of the American remake. Upon release, the album charted at #2. The album has since become her best selling album, eclipsing the sales of her three previous albums.

In July 2008, she will sign with american record label Sony BMG to distribute most of her releases in the US.

Yuki Isoya, or generally just Yuki, began her career as the front woman for the near generation-defining noisy pop Judy and Mary in 1991. If you are Japanese, you'd have had to have been in a coma for the past 15 years not to know at least one of their songs. In all, they released seven albums, three compilation albums and twenty-two singles. Judy and Mary broke up in 2001 following the Warp Tour Finale held at the Tokyo Dome, where fans bid them a tearful farewell. I thinks it's a matter of time before they rejoin if only to release an 'it's been a while' album. Japanese bands usually seem to enjoy functional relationships and if they break up it's usually genuinely to explore other creative directions.

YUKI has done that. While I don't mind JAM, I think she has really pushed herself to new directions exploring everything from dub to club-inspired dance pop. Both incarnations enjoy popularity in Japan and abroad. She's a J-pop girl whose talent and innovation makes her more than a guilty pleasure. Today's video for Joy is off her 2005 release by the same name. It's really hard to choose which YUKI video to show because they're all pretty great but this is the song that really stood out at the concert so I have to give her props for that. The video really seems to borrow from the early Daft Punk play book which is great to see - it's all a lot of fun.
